Successful development of the first underwater dam safety detection robot in China

In early May 2005, the first underwater detection robot successfully developed by Professor Sun Enfang of Harbin Engineering University—the TB-1 dam safety detection underwater robot has passed the acceptance test of the national “863 Program” robot technology subject expert group. Officially put into use.

The high resolution of the robot not only detects small cracks on the surface of the dam, but also detects the area and position of the internal cavity of the dam, and quantitatively measures the degree of damage. At the same time, the working depth of the robot can reach 300 meters underwater. It covers the existing large, medium and small dams in China. In addition, it can detect vertical dams and stratify the complex underwater horizontal structures covered by silt, which is suitable for both clear water and mixed water environments, which is impossible for old-fashioned underwater robots. .

The expert group commented: "This is the first multi-functional integrated underwater detection robot in China that integrates underwater imaging, detection, surface topographic mapping, and internal damage detection of the dam."
