MANN+HUMMEL develops new pressure regulating valves

With the successful development of the infinitely adjustable pressure regulating valve, MANN+HUMMEL AG proposes a new concept for pressure regulation of the crankcase ventilation system. The advantage of this type of valve is that it keeps the crankcase ventilation system at a constant low pressure to better protect the engine. The crankcase ventilation system of the engine is a closed system that is connected to the engine suction chamber. If the pressure is not adjustable, the suction chamber's negative pressure will be transferred to the crankcase degreaser. When the negative pressure exceeds 80 kPa, the engine gasket will be damaged and dust will enter the engine and accelerate engine wear. Therefore, it is important to regulate the pressure. One or two valves currently in use do not provide an adjustable pressure and tend to spike the associated pressure characteristic. The new valve has a simple and compact structure and has excellent adjustment performance. The key to the new valve is the flexible adjustment element, the upper element with a diaphragm and the bottom element at the valve opening seal. If the pressure changes, the adjustment element rolls at the valve opening seal, increasing or decreasing the volume of the cross cavity. Therefore, the crankcase can maintain a constant low pressure. The pressure curve shows that the pressure curve is flat and linear, so the valve is named “Flatline”.
