Hainan natural gas is expected to enrich domestic methanol resources

China has become the main production and consumption area of global methanol. At present, the methanol market price is firm and profitable, and the market has huge demand for methanol.
The South China Sea is rich in natural gas reserves, and a large part of it is natural gas with high carbon dioxide content. This provides special advantages for the development of the methanol industry in Hainan. If we combine the unique advantages of the development of Hainan chemical industry, close to the market, and convenient sea transportation, the large methanol project in Hainan will not only achieve economic benefits, but also protect the ecology, and it will be in line with China's strategy for strengthening the development of offshore natural gas.
Zhu Huayou, vice president of the China South Sea Research Institute, and other experts believe that the Beibu Gulf area relies on China’s economically developed southeast region to connect with the hinterland of the southwestern interior of the southwest. The potential for the development of offshore oil and gas resources is huge, coupled with the large number of deep-water ports and favorable conditions for the development of Lingang’s major industries. . Therefore, focusing on the development of methanol and other oil and gas chemical industry is an inevitable choice for the Beibu Gulf region to exert its regional and resource advantages. At the same time, this will also change the situation in China's oil and gas chemical industry that focuses on the northern part of the city, making the layout of the oil and gas chemical industry more balanced and reasonable.
If the high carbon dioxide-containing natural gas in the South China Sea is used for civil gas and power generation, it will have high resource consumption and high carbon dioxide emissions. However, if it is used to produce methanol, zero carbon dioxide emissions can be achieved. General methanol production enterprises need to add carbon dioxide to achieve a suitable ratio, that is, the ratio of hydrogen to carbon is between 2-2.05. If high-carbon dioxide natural gas is used to produce methanol, no additional carbon dioxide is needed. The resource utilization rate is high, and carbon dioxide is saved. Gas equipment and the corresponding gas consumption and energy consumption.
According to the “Eleventh Five-Year” development plan of Hainan Province, Hainan’s petrochemical industry’s development goals are: natural gas chemical industry, taking ammonia and methanol as sources, accelerating the development of downstream products, forming 5 billion cubic meters of annual gas supply and 3 million tons of chemical products. With comprehensive production capacity, it has built the largest natural gas comprehensive processing base in the country.
Analysts believe that Hainan should seize the opportunity to speed up the development and utilization of resources in the South China Sea, especially in the balance of natural gas and other energy supply, we must grasp the opportunity cost, add new gas as much as possible to extend the new project of the industrial chain.
