PBT produced from recycled PET

GE Plastics has developed a new process that uses 85% of post-consumer PET waste to produce PBT resin. The material produced is equivalent to the average product. The new ValoxiQPBT and XenoyiQPC/PBT are based on recycled PET bottles and films. The recovered PET is depolymerized to produce oligomers which are then polymerized with butanediol to form PBT. GE hopes to commercialize four ValoxiQ and two XenoyiQ levels in the fourth quarter. Its price has an advantage, uses include automotive, electronics and other fields.
