China's ionic medium-heavy rare earth resource reserves account for 80% of the world's total reserves, and medium-heavy rare earth production accounts for more than 95% of the world's total output. It is a strategic resource with absolute competitive advantage in China. Ion-type rare earth minerals are mainly distributed in Jiangxi, Guangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan and other provinces in southern China. Due to the dispersion of ion-type rare earth resources, low grade, and difficulty in extraction and separation, the leaching, enrichment, separation and purification processes of traditional ionic rare earth minerals have low recovery rate, high consumption, large amount of ammonia nitrogen or high-salt wastewater and serious wastes containing radioactive materials. Problems such as polluting the environment are major issues that have long been concerned.

In response to the resource and environmental problems faced by the rare earth industry, the Beijing Institute of Nonferrous Metals Research and the Rare Earth New Materials Co., Ltd. Professor Huang Xiaowei led the team to systematically carry out the basic theory research of rare earth green separation chemistry, and proposed to replace the alkali metal with calcium magnesium alkaline earth metal. It mainly includes: (1) New technology and equipment for green high-efficiency leaching integration of ionic rare earth ore. The recycling rate of magnesium salt wastewater and CO2 gas is greater than 90%; the process is shortened by 5 times; the total yield of rare earth is increased by 8-10 Percentage points; each new ton of rare earth oxides produced a profit tax of about 20,000 yuan, with significant environmental and economic benefits.

(2) A new process for extracting, separating and precipitating and recovering rare earth by magnesium bicarbonate.
