Paint giant Shou Wei acquires British Rice

The world’s third-largest paint manufacturer, Sherwin-Williams, announced today the formal acquisition of Leighs, the UK’s leading manufacturer of marine anti-corrosion and fire-retardant coatings. This is another major step taken by the company following the acquisition of the ABWilh Becker Group in Sweden in 2010. Sherwin-Williams will use advanced fire-retardant coating technology developed by Rice to serve customers in China and Asia markets.

Lace is a professional manufacturer of anti-corrosion and fire-retardant coatings for ships. It has a history of 151 years. Its leading brand Firetex is used in more than 400 projects such as global ocean platforms, oil refineries, chemical plants, and airport protection, and has 47 operations worldwide. Sherwin-Williams, headquartered in Ohio, USA, was established in 1866. It ranks first in the United States in paint manufacturing, development, and distribution, and has many well-known brands. In the 1990s, Sherwin-Williams Asia Pacific headquarters was established in Shanghai and established production bases in Shanghai and Zhaoqing in China to provide Asian customers with timely product distribution and comprehensive technical services.
