Daimler plans to start production of the world's five largest battery factories in 2019

According to reports, in order to ensure the battery supply of electric vehicles across the board, German carmaker Daimler plans to operate five battery assembly plants on three continents by 2019, three in Germany, one in the United States and one in China.

After the Daimler battery plant is put into operation, it can respond quickly and effectively to local market demand, and can adjust battery outlets according to demand. The total battery investment will cost more than 1 billion euros. Although Daimler is expanding the production of battery packs, lithium-ion batteries are still provided by third-party suppliers. If future demand cannot be accurately predicted, it may still lead to potential battery supply bottlenecks.

The first and second battery factories (under construction) are located in Kamenz, Germany. Founded in 2009, Deutsche Accumotive GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, is a core player in the development and production of Mercedes-Benz and many smart brand hybrid and new energy vehicles as well as highly complex batteries for commercial vehicles. Accumotive is located in Nabern, a metropolitan area of Stuttgart. Its R&D facilities are also located here, but battery production is located in Carmenz. The company employs more than 500 people. Accumotive works closely with affiliated Mercedes-Benz Energy Co., Ltd. and is responsible for the development and commercial release of Mercedes-Benz energy storage devices for civil and industrial use in Kammenz.

Daimler is currently investing 500 million euros in the construction of a second battery plant in Carmenz to increase battery production capacity. The Kamenz new battery plant, which is less than 50 km from Dresden, will be officially put into operation in 2018. It covers an area of approximately 20 hectares and is adjacent to the existing battery plant, which will expand the production and logistics area of Carmenz by a factor of four. , reached 80,000 square meters. At the end of the decade, Accumive will have more than 1,000 employees in both Nabern and Carmenz, twice as many now.

The second battery plant is a CO2-neutral plant: Daimler's comprehensive plant in the electromotive production mode, whose production stage is crucial to sustainable development. The production facility will be powered by combined heat and power generation and photovoltaic power stations and will be used in conjunction with fixed battery storage units. The new battery factory adopts the most advanced equipment and technology, and will also be formulated according to industry 4.0 standards.

The third factory will be built in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. The Nettethheim Battery Plant will serve as the Mercedes battery plant. In the future, the battery factory in Nünte Teerheim will supply batteries for electric vehicles and technology-brand electric vehicles produced by the Sindelfingen automotive plant. The batteries will be produced at a satellite plant in Brühl.

The fourth battery plant will be located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States. Daimler recently announced that it will spend $1 billion to invest in the battery plant.

The fifth battery plant will be located in Beijing and operated by BAIC. The new battery plant belongs to a project of Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. (BBAC) and is a German-Chinese joint venture between Daimler and BAIC.
